This story is part of the Riku/Sora challenge I am doing :D This is prompt (14. Poison corrupted from the inside out) Sooo, I hope you enjoy? OwO; -headmeetdesk-
Riku scratched at his skin. His pale white skin felt dirty, a bit unclean, and he couldn’t help but rub at his forearm. He made a face of disdain, one of discontent and annoyance before he dropped his right hand from his left arm and sighed. He wasn’t dirty, he knew that, but he still felt unclean.
He took showers twice a day, going on three now, just to make himself feel clean. There was this layer of thickness he felt on him, something heavy and molasses-like. A thick syrup that made his body sweat more and made him want to peel off his skin.
Swimming in the water helped sooth that inky feeling he felt on his the water made him feel more clean and light. His body didn’t seem heavy when he was swimming in the waters off the shores of Destiny Islands. In fact, any one could find Riku swimming in the waters now a days. He would strip down to his swimming trunks before diving off into the calm waves and letting his body drift aimlessly along the surface of the water.
The silver haired teen had a vague idea of why he was feeling the way he was feeling. Perhaps it was still the lingering darkness that hid away in his heart, or perhaps it was a lust for things he shouldn’t have. Riku hoped for the earlier.
He would rather crave darkness than something he shouldn’t have. Something he wanted to have.
Shaking his head, he dove back under the water, only to re-surface again. Riku wiped his face. He let the water trickled down his face, down his cheek, past his lips, down his neck and he wish lips were there instead of the salt. Riku ran a hand behind his neck, rubbing the kinks out before letting out an aggravated growl. He figured it was time to head back to shore.
As he dragged his body up onto land, the heavy feeling came back, weighing his body down and once more. His skin felt thick. “God…” Riku murmured, rubbing his palm over his arms again. He reached for his discarded towel on the sand and quickly began to dry his body down. He dried his hair so no more salt water could trickle down his body again. Riku sighed, dropping his arm restlessly before turning his head to his name being called.
“Riku! There you are!” came Sora’s happy voice.
The sticky feeling came back ten fold.
Riku smiled however, always grateful to see his friend that brought him a sanguine feeling he loved to embrace. “Hey Sora.” he called, waving back at his friend. Sora smiled lopsidedly and stopped in front of his taller friend.
“What are you doing?” Sora asked curiously as he looked up and down at Riku’s damp body, “Swimming?” he inquired, looking up inquisitively at the taller male.
“Yeah, just going for a small dive.” Riku said smoothly.
Sora smiled, “I see,” he said, “Well, it’s getting a bit late, I was gonna ask if you wanted to go home yet.”
“Are the others?” Riku asked as he pulled on his pants over his damp swimming shorts.
“Yeah, they are.” Sora replied.
“Then let's stay, the two of us, for a bit.” Riku murmured, running the towel through his hair, “At least till I wash off.”
“Fair enough.” Sora nodded. “I’ll go tell the others to head out then.” he said and ran off towards the docks. Riku smiled and nodded, gathering his clothes.
He felt sticky.
Walking to where the water fall was, Riku threw his things down on the ledge next to the falls and once again, stripped down to his swim trunks. He jumped into the fresh water and began to clean his body of the salt that still clung on to him.
Sora came several minutes later, sitting at the ledge as he kicked his shoes off and let his feet dangle in the water. “They said ok.” Sora informed, Riku nodded. “Say Riku…” the younger of the two started.
“Huh?”
“…why do you…go swimming so much? You never really used too…” Sora said. He tilted his head to the side, his arms behind him to support his weight.
Riku was silent for a moment, deafly running his hand up and down his arms. His dark green eyes looked up at Sora’s curious blue and finally he murmured, “Do you really want to know?”
“…yes.” Sora said quite innocently.
But I better not…- Riku said mentally to himself, but it went unregistered. He shuffled over to Sora, the water pulling him back around his knees. The silent hush of the water fall behind him made things seem all too surreal and the last minutes of sunlight disappeared beyond the horizon. The dark blue night sky now laid dormant above them and the many worlds that looked like stars now looked down on them; bearing witness to them.
Sora watched as Riku neared, his silver hair sticking to his face and a glow set upon his friend from the last sun rays that reached them. His friend’s body shifted and moved under that damp skin, a small smile on Riku’s lips. Sora looked down, unable to handle his older friend anymore. Riku finally stood in front of Sora, a ghost of smile tugging on his lips. The brunet’s eyes rolled up, eyeing his friend through his thick bangs
Finally, a pale finger reached out and Sora finally brought his eyes to meet green ones. “Because…there’s still a darkness inside of me.” he lied. With a stale smile, Riku turned back to continue washing off the salt. Sora frowned.
“Riku…” Sora murmured. He pulled his shorts up, folding them just above his knees and shrugged off his jacket. Sora jumped into the pool of clean water and walked towards his friend. “Something like that, you shouldn’t hide.” he said in a concerned tone.
“You’re too kind for your own good.” Riku said jokingly as he turned towards Sora, the water fall falling on his left shoulder. “It’s nothing, really.”
“I know you’re lying.” Sora frowned. He stepped closer to Riku and Riku had the urge to clean his body more thoroughly. He turned his head away, not wanting to be so close to Sora anymore. “Tell me.” Sora murmured. Riku could almost feel the younger boy’s lips on his neck, though they were no where near him.
Riku eyed Sora, his focus on those parted lips. “Just things.”
“What kind of things?” Sora asked.
“…stuff.”
Sora knew he wouldn’t be able to get Riku to tell him what exactly, “…can I help?” he asked. Riku looked at his best friend. -In more ways than one…- Riku thought.
“You shouldn’t.” he said instead.
“Why?” Sora asked, his hands laced in front of him as he fidgety nervously played with them. He wanted to help Riku; Riku should let him help.
“Because.” Riku shrugged as he squeezed his long hair dry of water.
“That’s not a fair answer.” Sora said, his blue eyes staring up at Riku. The night had finally settled in. The island looked different now, more alive than it did in the day. The plants and other greenery were now dark, the water that surrounded them and the island now reflected the worlds above them and the moon. Sora took another step closer to Riku and looked down, his hand touching Riku’s softly. “I want to help.”
And Riku felt clean.

The next day, Riku was relaxing on the beach again, the warm sun beating down on him. His body felt cleaner than usual, more so than before. Of course, he still felt a bit filthy, but that was something he was slowly becoming used too.
Last night he had a dream of being clean. He had a dream of that simple touch he had with Sora near the falls and it turned into so much more. He was clean, not sticky nor heavy with molasses, but fresh and light. Sora was holding his hand and smiling at him and again, Riku wished there were lips on his neck to make him feel grounded.
He opened his eyes, focusing them on a seagull that hovered above him. He figure he’d best move before a bomb dropped on him. Sitting up and standing, Riku thought he should seek out his best friend.
He found Sora inside the secret cave, looking at old doodles he and others had done when they were little. “Not scared of the cave anymore?” Riku asked with a witty smile, Sora turned and smiled back.
“Not after what we've been through.” he said. Riku chuckled.
“That’s true.” he murmured, looking off to the side. Sora looked at his friend, a passing thought crossing his mind.
“You know…I expect you can talk to me about anything…” Sora commented. Riku looked at Sora and then lowered his eyes.
“Some things, no.”
“What things Riku?” Sora pursued.
“I’m not saying.” Riku finalized, but Sora would have none of that. He stepped forward and grabbed Riku’s hands.
“We went through a lot, I would think that by now you can trust me.” Sora murmured. Riku just looked away.
“I better not.” he said.
“Better not what?”
“…” the silver haired teen just kept silent. Sora frowned. He took actions. If words didn’t work, then maybe a verb would. Riku was more than shocked when a brush of lips grazed his. He blinked and looked at Sora with wide eyes. His skin tingled, not at all feeling heavy, in fact, he felt really light, more than he did when he was in the water.
Sora stared at Riku for a reaction. “Riku…?” he called, trying to get his friend’s attention. The older male just blinked.
“…better not.” Riku murmured absently.
“What’s wrong?” Sora asked, tired of Riku’s senseless muttering.
Riku’s skin radiated, “Sora…” he murmured. He looked at the shorter male, those eyes that made his heart flutter and mouth that made is skin prick. He wanted it again though; but he better not.
The brunet however stepped forward and touched Riku’s arm, murmuring his name again. “Riku…” and the silver haired male looked at his friend. Those lips, he wanted them on his own.
He should know better.
Sora didn’t move away when Riku kissed him a simple touch of the lips. In fact, Sora slid his eyes closed and let Riku kiss him, and only every now and then did he add pressure back.
After all, this was how he helped Riku forget.
Riku’s skin flared, the heavy molasses feeling gone, only to be replaced by a feeling of water and light touches. Sora’s lips moved, down Riku’s neck and to his shoulder. The brunet moved the cloth covering Riku’s pale shoulders and continued to kiss the exposed flesh. Riku sighed, finally having lips on him instead of salt. Dirty salt.
“Sora…” Riku murmured as he pushed the smaller boy up against the cool hard walls of the hidden cave. The drawings all watched as the older male pressed his body against Sora’s, acting out an act of definite cradle robbing.
Their bodies rubbed against each other, a rough pleasure rolling through each boy’s body as Sora licked up Riku’s neck. He tasted salty, but very good like the finest sea food. Riku’s hand traced the small curves of Sora’s lithe body, his fingertips making note of each curve, each slight incline, decline, and hitched sound that would leave Sora’s pretty lips. “Oh, Riku…”
“…” Riku stopped.
“Riku, if it’ll help you…” Sora said, moving one gloved hand down his friend’s body, ghosting over areas that he shouldn’t touch.
Riku looked at his friend’s face, so young, so stupidly innocent. “You’re like a poison, Sora.” Riku said above a whisper against Sora‘s lips. “I want to….but I better not.” Riku said and with all his will, he pushed himself off of the wall and away from Sora’s magnetic body.
The brunet looked at his silver haired friend and blinked, “Riku.”
The older teen just stood there. His fist clenched as he stared at his childhood friend. Riku knew what he wanted and that he indeed craved the light. He wanted the light to wash his skin of the thick funk that had managed to cling to his body. A layer of darkness and filth had developed on him from hanging around such things.
The older teen rubbed his forearm again, frustrated and annoyed.
He wanted Sora, wanted his friend to tell him, “C’mon Riku, you can do it.” wanted him in more in more ways than one. But Sora was a drug that Riku shouldn’t take. He was an ecstasy when legs were open and pill down his throat, but Riku shouldn’t.
He better not; he was too close.
“Riku…” Sora called again, but the older teen disregarded him. His green eyes hardened and Riku knew that whether he should or shouldn’t, Riku wanted to at least see Sora. Wanted to at least hear the boy’s happy voice and maybe at least touch him once.
It was a pain that he had to live with, but if Sora was happy, he would happily continue hurting.
“You’re so selfish.” Sora murmured.
Riku just smiled, “I just put people before me.” he said quietly as he absently rubbed his arms.
“You’re dirty.”
“I’ll be clean when I get home.” Riku murmured, “I’ll be clean. I’ll be with the people I love most.”
“You’ll always be dirty.” Sora said monotonously.
“Yeah…but at least I’m real.” Riku smiled.
“If that was supposed to hurt, I didn’t feel it.”
“That’s right, nobodies like you don’t feel. You play a sick game.”
“Thank you.”
Riku looked down, a heavy feeling coming over him, but he could hear the waves of the beach crashing on the shore just outside of this cave and he was reminded. He was reminded of the beach back home, the real beach, the real water, real waves, and the real kisses that he knew was waiting for him. He could almost hear his voice too, calling, yelling, shouting, “Riku!”; a drug Riku better not take, but wanted.
The high was too good in the end.
He looked up and Sora wasn’t standing there anymore. Riku scratched at his arms, trying to pick off the sticky feel his skin felt, but it did nothing. He should have known from the beginning, his mind and body kept telling him he shouldn’t he should walk away, but he stayed to see Sora’s smiling face just once more. His heart knew better though, he should have listened to it. Now he will though, Riku nodded to himself, his heart knew better.
“A sick game indeed, Zexion.”
